I'll be honest, I liked the idea behind Fiverr.com.
Only a few clicks and a client can set an order using a freelancer according to a particular set of deliverables.
Sure, but it comes at a cost. A large one.
That is just one the couple freelance platforms at which buyers are given free reign to abuse, sabotage and blackmail vendors any way they like.
Why? Because Fiverr turn a blind eye to it.
In this informative article, I want to share a new bad experience as a vendor on Fiverr, also why I decided to give up on the stage entirely.
(I have been guiding her on building a respectable accounts, and how to go beyond and above every previous order. Everything stated is her doing, I'm only an audience )
In cases like this, she'd only gotten another $5 order on her logo gig, which seemed to be similar to another... or so we believed.
The order was fulfilled in good time, and my buddy had included a bonus emblem concept as well as the source file (which is usually part of the pricier package).
The client"loved" among those concepts and so we moved to deliver her the appropriates file sizes, as stated in the gig description. Shortly afterwards, things got a little weird.
The customer came back asking for a social media kit to decide on the logo, something that is clearly not offered as part of her post.
In my advice, my girlfriend chose to provide the further work, although not getting paid any extra for this.
Following that, the client responded with much more demands and a few changes to the social networking files.
At this point, she consented enough was enough.
Despite every effort to please this person, they were clearly overstepping their bounds here.
This is when the customer went from only overstepping boundaries to unquestionable blackmail. (The equivalent of taking my girlfriend Fiverr reputation hostage.)
While she took some time to ponder a reply and reach to Fiverr service for help, the customer did eventually go ahead and render a 1 star review.
Presumably this is to demonstrate her he/she wasn't BBB Business Profile Fiverr, Inc. Reviews and Complaints kidding.
Soon after, while still waiting on Fiverr's answer to the support query, the customer paid an extra $10 to your social media kit.
Of course, the payment has been accompanied by yet another danger.
At this point, all I wished to do was go all Liam Neeson and hunt this individual down so I could repeatedly punch them from the face.
However, at the time, I had hope that Fiverr service could step in and rescue my girlfriend from this PITA client.
When the answer came back from Fiverr service, they told her they couldn't Fiverr Review - The Pros and Cons of the Five-Dollar Marketplace ... force the purchaser to take the purchase.
Okay, that is fair enough. (though the buyer already accepted it, technically.)
They also proposed drawing up a listing for the buyer to demonstrate the job has been done in accordance to the gig prerequisites.
Frankly, this response simply didn't cut the mustard.
My girlfriend communicated in her first email the customer was trying to extort her to get free work out the agreed conditions, by leaving a negative inspection if she didn't comply.
Needless to say, it was not about the job, it was all about seeking protection from an abusive customer who had been intentionally pushing his luck.
Their answer didn't provide us some assurance that Fiverr really knew that, and even in this stage we felt as though they didn't wish to get involved.
At precisely the same time, she responded to the buyers newest danger, explaining that she would not continue to operate with them unless the comments had been changed/removed.
(Again, this is comments that has been obviously and intentionally made to intimidate her to providing function outside the agreed terms)
An honest request by anyones standards, appropriate? Well, apparently not.
Rather than acknowledge what the buyer had completed until this point, Fiverr immediately turned the tables on my girlfriend.
Turns out, she had been the only breaking all of the rules.
Since she'd requested the customer to modify their feedback, she was no longer entitled to any assistance from Fiverr support.
It's possible to imagine how we both felt studying this.
Everything that the buyer had done and said before her very last message was now being swept under the rug -- like never happened in any respect.
Fiverr basically opted to support a manipulative bully, leaving my girlfriend with a permanent stain in an account she'd worked so hard to build up.
If everything that occurred was not upsetting enough, it's knowing that this person is still running rampant on Fiverr, preying on defensless vendors with no shred of repercussion.
And think, there are loads of buyers doing exactly this on Fiverr, knowing they can and will get away with it.
Well, as all this was happening, I did a little research to determine whether any other vendors went through a similar ordeal with an individual buyer.
Quite quickly, I discovered a number of nearly identical cases on the Fiverr forum outdated years back. (that's correct, decades.)
This is clearly something that's been going on for a long time and it all stems from providing buyers too much power over vendors.
When there's 1 thing I've learned about Fiverr, it's that customers are ALWAYS more appreciated than freelancers.
Regardless of how much time that you put into a job, or how hard you worked on it, or maybe how well you managed communication in a dispute, when it actually boils down great post to read to it... freelancers have little to no protection.
Even if it is a very clear cut case in your favor, there's still every chance the client will come out at the top. All it takes it one little thing you"did no way" in accordance with their own terms of support and EVERYTHING else is disregarded
Taking a look at the signs, it's obvious to me which Fiverr is well aware of what's happening, yet remains inclined to sit back and let it happen.
If you're a decision maker at Fiverr and you are reading this, then I implore you to seriously reevaluate your current support procedures for freelancers.
It's not right that someone can set all the time and effort into establishing an account and also over-delivering at every conceivable chance, only to be shot down from the very people that you rely on to protect you.
Look, I really don't want to leave Fiverr. I really don't need to be telling folks to prevent your own platform.
But after everything that's happened, you haven't left me any selection.
Until something is done to shield freelancers from using this sort of abuse, I'll continue to spread this article and do anything I can to prevent others from falling prey to your one-sided support team.
The next you really do something about it and also give freelancers a way to fight back, I will be happy to update this post.
